DONES Xcitech will be held at the School of Architecture of the University of Granada. The School is located in one of the most emblematic neighborhoods of Granada, the ‘Barrio del Realejo’, very close to the Alhambra hill, a historic place of the first magnitude surrounded by a landscape of fertile plains and mountains that make it a privileged enclave.
The building is located in Campo del Príncipe, a magnificent reuse and rehabilitation operation of an old Military Hospital, transformed into a School of Architecture as a result of an international architecture competition won by the architect Víctor López Cotelo, and declared the National Architecture Prize in the year 2015. Being chosen as the venue for numerous congresses and technical conferences not only in the architectural field, touring its spaces is an architecture lesson, and we invite those who visit us to get lost in its patios and corners.
The lecturers and students will be lodged at another historic building of the University , the ‘Corrala de Santiago’, one of the University’s residences for visiting professors. Located only 3 minutes by foot from the School of Architecture, It is one of the most representative popular models of architecture from the 16th and 17th centuries developed in Granada, typical of the lower area of the city, which is reached by abandoning the heights – the preferred place of Muslim settlement – in favor of the flats.
Today, the building still recalls the communal life of what used to be a tenement house, with a sociability area -the one formed by the central patio and the successive galleries in height-, opposite the intimate or family area -the rooms for private use.
The visitor will undoubtedly be able to enjoy that difficult mix between current comfort and the virtual transfer to the past that, with a remarkable balance, the rescued residence of the University of Granada knows how to transmit to everyone it welcomes.
